If you’ve ever fallen down the rabbit hole of researching website platforms, you’re already learning—there’s no perfect option. Every platform has its strengths and trade-offs. After using many website platforms, I’ve landed on a Showit site (well actually two) for my business – One for photography and one for my SEO services.

However, there are plenty of platforms built for different business needs, and Showit is just one of the options worth considering. At its core, choosing a website platform is about balancing priorities.  For example:

  • WordPress offers unmatched SEO power but has a steep learning curve.
  • Squarespace is user-friendly but limits customization.
  • Wix provides drag-and-drop freedom but often suffers from bloated code that can slow performance.

And then there’s Showit—a hybrid approach that blends creative freedom, usability, and SEO potential better than most. But is it the right choice for you? Let’s break it down.

—Just a heads up this post includes referral links, which means I may earn a small commission if you sign up through them (at no extra cost to you). But let’s be real: I only share tools I actually use and love. Thanks for supporting my work!

What is Showit? A Quick Overview

Showit is a drag-and-drop website builder known for giving users full design control—without needing to touch code. However, a great advtange is you can dive into the code if you need to add in things like a chatbot, integrate your CRM and more.  But you don’t have to for a great site. Originally designed for photographers and creatives, it’s grown into a platform that works for coaches, service providers, and SEO-savvy business owners who want more control than Squarespace but less hassle than full-scale WordPress.

Key Features:

  • Complete design flexibility (not locked into templates).
  • Mobile customization (you control how mobile looks).
  • WordPress integration for blogging (best of both worlds).
  • Strong customer support (actual humans, not chatbots).

How a Showit Site Stacks Up Against Competitors

Choosing the right website platform depends on what you prioritize. Here’s how a Showit site compares:

Website Builder reference chart for small businesses

Where Showit Wins: Full creative control, solid SEO potential, excellent customer support.

Where Competitors Might Be Better: Squarespace for simplicity and functionality out of the box, Wix for beginners, WordPress for large blogs or custom development.

Showit & SEO: A Powerful (But Not Perfect) Option

Let’s be clear: WordPress is still the king of SEO. If pure search engine dominance is your only priority, a well-optimized WordPress site will always have the edge. Truthfully, a big edge. But SEO isn’t just about raw power—it’s also about usability. Because all of the tools mean nothing if you won’t utilize them. And this is where Showit stands out.

The SEO Advantages of Showit:

  • Full control over SEO elements like meta descriptions, page titles, and alt text (most builders allows customization, but Showit provides more flexibility in implementation).
  • The ability to structure your H1-H6 hierarchy properly without messing with the design.
  • Mobile-specific SEO settings (but you need to manually adjust them).
  • WordPress blog integration means you still get WordPress-level blogging SEO.

The Trade-Offs:

  • Mobile SEO requires extra work (since Showit lets you design desktop and mobile separately, you need to ensure both are optimized). This one gets me every time I redesign a page. LOVE the customization, but putting it together can be a downer.
  • Fewer SEO plugins than a fully self-hosted WordPress site, but since Showit integrates with WordPress for blogging, you still have access to Yoast and other WordPress SEO tools on the basic and advanced blogging plans.
  • No built-in blog—you have to integrate WordPress, which means two logins and separate hosting. To me this is a plus but for many it’s a pain.

Showit isn’t the #1 SEO platform, but it strikes a balance: design freedom, usability, and strong SEO potential—without the headache of managing a full WordPress site

The Learning Curve: Is a Showit Site Easy to Use?

Here’s the deal: Showit is easier than WordPress but harder than Squarespace.

 What’s Easy?

✔ Drag-and-drop design with no code required. ✔ Customizing desktop and mobile separately (huge creative freedom). ✔ No template restrictions—you can make anything.

What Takes Time To Learn?

❌ Mobile optimization (it’s not automatic like Squarespace—you need to design it. However, templates come predesigned for you). ❌ No built-in blog—Showit utilizes a partnership with wordpress. ❌ Understanding how layers and design elements work together.

Bottom Line: If you’re willing to invest time upfront, Showit gives you more creative control and better SEO flexibility than Squarespace, Wix, or most competitors

Who Should and Should NOT Use Showit?

🚫 Skip Showit if…

  • You need advanced e-commerce (While there are options, a Showit store isn’t ideal).
  • You want an instant, plug-and-play setup (Squarespace/Wix/Pixieset are better for that).
  • You run a huge blog with thousands of posts (self-hosted WordPress is better).

Consider Showit if…

  • You’re a photographer, coach, creative, or service-based business.
  • You care about SEO but don’t want the complexity of full WordPress.
  • You want full control over your site’s look and mobile experience.

Final Thoughts: Is Showit Right for You?

There’s no perfect website platform—only the one that balances your needs.

Showit is best for creatives and service-based businesses who want design freedom, SEO control, and usability—without diving into full-on WordPress.
